Nature And Nurture: How To Make The Effects Of Liposuction Last

Posted on

Making the choice to undergo liposuction is a big one.  For many people who choose liposuction, they've been working hard to stay slim but need a little extra help with problem areas like their hips, faces, and tummies.  If you're worried about keeping the fat away once your procedure is complete, make these two important changes to your routine to help keep fat at bay.

Fat Prevention Method #1: Know Your Macros

If you've been trying without success to keep get rid of those pockets of fat, you've likely also tried several diets, from low carb to Paleo, none of which successfully got fat out of your tummy or hips.  That might be because, although you were avoiding grains and unhealthy fats, you still weren't eating the right amounts of different kinds of food.

After your liposuction date, be sure to have a good understanding of your macros.  This term refers to the specific number of calories that need to come from fat, protein, and carbs based on your age, weight, sex, and energy output.  While limiting pasta and oils might be a good idea, your body might need more carbs than what you're currently eating, causing you to be low in energy or not burning calories efficiently.

Knowing your macros will let you know if you can enjoy a peanut butter sandwich with lunch or if you need to skip it for a lean cut of salmon.

Fat Prevention Method #2: Get Physical in Intervals

You likely know by now that both cardio and strength training are important to keep a good physique, but you might not know that neither is the most effective at burning fat.  To ensure you're burning fat efficiently throughout your workout, invest more of your time into High Intensity Interval Training, or HIIT, post-liposuction.   While going for a long run or bike ride does require strength and stamina, it simply doesn't burn fat as efficiently because your body stays at a relatively constant level of output.  HIIT requires short bursts of maximum output and then even shorter periods of rest.

Whether you're a runner or a lifter, you can fit more HIIT into your workout routine to help prevent fat from coming back where you had liposuction.

  • Runners: You've gotten your 5K time down to a science, but can you sprint?  Instead of going for your normal jog, try doing 30 second sprints at 10 miles an hour offset with 60 seconds of walking.
  • Lifters: Put down the heavy weights and replace them with lighter ones.  Instead of doing three sets of 12 reps, do as many reps as possible in 45 seconds with 15 seconds of rest between each exercise.

Liposuction can be a great way to get a fresh start with your physique.  You've been working for so long to get rid of troublesome fat with little to no changes in certain areas of your body.  Once you've removed it through liposuction, change up your diet and workout routine to help keep it away.  Know your macros and workout with HIIT to help bust fat before it takes hold in your problem areas. Talk with a local surgeon, like Medilaser, Cosmetic Surgery and Vein Center, for more information.
