If you are planning on having a tummy tuck done, you will need to make sure that you are well aware of the things that you can do in order to help you deal with the recovery process once you are home. To help you with this, you will want to check out the following points.

Keeping Clean

It is important to make sure that you are stay as clean as possible in order to ward off infection. Therefore, you will want to use antibacterial soap for your hands and antibacterial body wash for your body.

Ask About Laxatives

Many people find that relieving their bowels to be a little strenuous and even a little scary. This is mostly because of where your incisions will be and you do not want to feel as though you are putting too much stress on them. Therefore, many surgeons will suggest using laxatives for the first week or so. This is to help prevent any constipation and will help you easily release your bowels without having to worry about it becoming too difficult to do.

Get Up And Walk

While it might be tempting to rest in bed all day, that may not be in your best interest. You need to get up throughout the day and walk around the house for at least ten or fifteen minutes. Try to do this at least every few hours. This helps with the progress of your recovery and prevents blood clots.

Walk In A Stooped Position

For the first couple of days that you are home, you will want to walk in a stooped over position. This may seem awkward at first, but you will find that it relieves some of the pain and discomfort. Also, walking in this manner prevents you from ending up adding any undue stress to the sutures.

Find Help For Dressing Changes

You will either need to have a family member trained to properly change your surgical dressings or hire a home health aide to do it for you. You might find that you are too weak to do this yourself for the first first days that you are home. If you are not having your dressings changed as soon as they are needed to be changed, you could end up with an infection.
